Lanas del Rio was founded in 1994 by Yorkshire weavers Paul Sutcliffe and Howard Wimpenny. The mill, Molino Taponero, was acquired as a total ruin and reconstruction began.

Two Dobcross shuttle looms were brought from Yorkshire in pieces and along with all the associated machinery re-assembled at the mill. Although no longer run by steam power, the machines are fully working museum pieces, still capable of producing the finest quality cloth for which the Yorkshire mills were famous.

In 2006, upon Howard´s  retirement, the company was joined by Paul´s wife, Dawn Craig; Dawn works with Paul on all aspects of production, from sourcing raw materials, to  weaving and finishing the fabrics.

Rebuilding work has continued to the present day and in addition to Lanas del Rio, Molino Taponero is now home to Paul and Dawn.
